Rational Points on Certain Quintic Hypersurfaces
Let f(x) = x+ax+bx+cx ∈ Z[x] and consider the hypersurface of degree five given by the equation Vf : f(p) + f(q) = f(r) + f(s). Under the assumption b 6= 0 we show that there exists Q-unirational elliptic surface contained in Vf . If b = 0, a < 0 and −a 6≡ 2, 18, 34 (mod 48) then there exists Q-rational surface contained in Vf . Moreover, we prove that for each f of degree five there exists Q(i...
متن کاملRational Points on Certain Elliptic Surfaces
Let Ef : y 2 = x + f(t)x, where f ∈ Q[t] \ Q, and let us assume that deg f ≤ 4. In this paper we prove that if deg f ≤ 3, then there exists a rational base change t 7→ φ(t) such that there is a non-torsion section on the surface Ef◦φ. A similar theorem is valid in case when deg f = 4 and there exists t0 ∈ Q such that infinitely many rational points lie on the curve Et0 : y 2 = x + f(t0)x. In pa...
متن کاملRational Points on Certain Families of Curves of Genus at Least 2
A conjecture of Mordell, recently proven by Faltings [7], states that a curve of genus at least 2 has only finitely many rational points. Faltings' proof is not effective, although a careful reworking of his proof, combined with some further ideas of Faltings, Mumford, Parshin, and Raynaud, allows one to give an upper bound for the number of rational points. (See [19, XI, §2].) Unfortunately, t...
متن کاملRational Points on Certain Del Pezzo Surfaces of Degree One
Let f(z) = z +az + bz + cz+ d ∈ Z[z] and let us consider a del Pezzo surface of degree one given by the equation Ef : x 2 − y − f(z) = 0. In this note we prove that if the set of rational points on the curve Ea, b : Y 2 = X + 135(2a − 15)X − 1350(5a + 2b − 26) is infinite, then the set of rational points on the surface Ef is dense in the Zariski topology.
متن کاملPreperiodic points for families of rational maps
Let X be a smooth curve defined over Q̄, let a, b ∈ P(Q̄) and let fλ(x) ∈ Q̄(x) be an algebraic family of rational maps indexed by all λ ∈ X(C). We study whether there exist infinitely many λ ∈ X(C) such that both a and b are preperiodic for fλ. In particular, we show that if P,Q ∈ Q̄[x] such that deg(P ) 2 + deg(Q), and if a, b ∈ Q̄ such that a is periodic for P (x)/Q(x), but b is not preperiodic f...
